hey i got a 1985 ranger 2.3 engine 5 speed transmission . my problem is when i press on the throttle once it gets to a certain rpm it bucks and sputters like its starving for fuel . i replaced the fuel pump and checked the the fuel filter and its ok. i ran the codes and im getting code 23 throttle position sensor out of range i ordered one off ebay because no parts stores around here carry it ordered it off ebay and it was wrong it didnt even turn the right way i can not figure this thing out i wouldnt think a throttle position sensor would make it run that badly any help would ne greatly appreciated

If you have a TPS, you have EFI. If you have EFI, in an 85 you likely have two fuel pumps. One in the tank and one mounted to the frame, drivers side. I would check fuel pressure and delivery volume at the regulator on the fuel injector rail, underhood. Regulated should be in the 40psi range, and should bump if the vacuum line is disconnected.
The TPS might have bad spots that tell the computer the throttle plate is closed, but that is not very likely. On that year, they must be 'adjusted' on installation of a new TPS, setting the 'closed throttle' position and resistance.

thanks for the reply yea i know it has two fuel pumps, the one i replace was the one on the frame as it didnt even have one when i bought it i am surprised i got it home i didnt even know it was missing untill i checked to see id was missing as i suspected one of the fuel pumps were bad. as for the tps i checked it with a multimeter at closed throttle it has 2.91 volts and as you turn the throttle slowly to see if the voltage rises it has 0 volts all the way to about 3/4 throttle it should start out with .5 and rise slowly as you turn the throttle slowly

update

i took the filter out and blew it out and wow does it run better but it still has a hesitation wheb accelerating ill buy a new filter and put tps on and hipefully the little 2.3 will come alive again this truck is in extremely great condition for as old as it is
