im curious to know what year did they start putting roller cams in the rangers? since they are ohc motors, do they have lifters?? are the rockers roller too? plan on putting a ranger roller cam in my turbo 2.3. need some info. thanks!

normally they came in 89 and up, but 88 had one. it must have been a late 88. the rockers have a roller in them. the cam itself has no roller, it's called a roller cam because it is designed to go with the roller rockers. it has no lifters, rather it has hydraulic lash adjusters. on the one side of the head is the valve. in the middle is the cam. on the other side is the HLA which serves as a pivot point for the rocker.

1989, or late, late 88.

Yes tho different from the standard lifter.

Evidently you haven't seen a 2.3 rocker arm. They are different in that the lifter is on one end of the rocker, and the valve is on the other end. The cam contacts the rocker in the center. On roller cams, the roller is in the center of the rocker.

Roller cams thru 1994 will work. In 1995 valve stems were made smaller, and the slot in the rockers is narrower than early models, and will not fit the early larger valve stems.:)shady

no i havent seen a 2.3 rocker yet, this is my first 4 cylinder/ ohc build. just bought a 84' 2.3 turbo motor and about to rip in it.

I hear there's an advantage to using the ranger cam, it was suggested to me, so I went ahead and did the swap when I was building my 2.3T... since I did it first, I don't know how much of an advantage there is
