ranger refit/build thread

this is moving forward a few years, but heres the headers done.
i'm seriously considering sending them out for ceramic coating-they look terrible.

No offense gwaii, but they DO look terrible. But hey, at least it's the only thing on your truck that does!

Loving reading all this, man. Love the truck... but I'm not entirely sure I'm comfortable with the amount of genius that comes out of your noggin. Haha!

heres the complete system.note that by now it's been painted, and other minor things done, but the basic layout has been good,so no more major mods to the suspension or drivetrain were needed.
i could beat on the 460 till the cows come home, and it just begs for more.thirsty beast, though.

Killer truck!

Curious about the power steering. Did you just get hoses made to run all the way up to the power steering box? Where would you get something like that made?

i used steel line, like for fuel or trans lines.5/16 for the pressure side,3/8 return.they are double-flared for fittings at the ends to attatch to the steering box and flex lines at the pump.seems to work pretty good.
i use a similar idea for the heater hoses-steel pipe from the engine to under the heater box with a short length of hose at each end for the connections.

Awesome for sure!

What about the throttle cable? Is it rigged on a pulley system? If so did you run the cable through tubing under the truck to protect it or what?

i just used a marine throttle cable,so outside of it's length,it works the same way as a stock ranger throttle.

in the pic of the engine above, you can see it beside the distributer-it's the red one.

Let me guess.............The meat wagon the truck is parked on has a 460 in it....

Is the radiator still in the bed? It kinda looks like its under the exhaust pipes, can't really tell by the pic

What is that rear spring from?

yup...consider it an organ doner.

yup...but where earlier it was sloped down over the trans, when the headers went on i laid it right flat so the exhaust could go over it.at the same time i moved the fans to the bottom of the rad from the top.

What is that rear spring from?

it'a actually from a variety of f250 leaves that were trimmed to length...i experimented with a number of different leaf combinations before settling on the combo it has.if i want to change the spring rate,i can just swap in a different leaf in the pack,or shim the pack on the bracket to adjust ride height.

question about 2 transmissions

Let me start by saying I think you are a great builder. The question I have for you is what do you gain by putting 2 transmission together, would you gain the same thing by putting 2 transfer cases together? I don't know a lot about 4X4's so don't take it that I'm putting your work down just asking question. also if you have time check out my thread in rare RBV. and see if you can answer some of my questions if you have time. sorry I don't know how to put a link on here to get you there easy. Thanks Jeff

ya,putting two transmissions together just gives more low gear options, just like a transfer case doubler but with more gear choices.it also gives lower gears than any t-case doubler.
the truck also has two transfer cases.
