ranger refit/build thread

Going thru the applicants for the Top Truck Challenge,I was wondering if you ever considered putting the ranger in it? Your truck would be a natural for it.

i considered it before, but raising the cash to do that would not be easy.

You've got our support! I told you before i'll ride with ya and be your spotter, helper for winching and repair ops and all that fun happy horse §hit

the big problem is that, unless things have recently changed, you had to get your truck and yourself to the event on your own dime.i was looking into it in 2004 or 2005,when i was in the vancouver area, and i think the event was in california(don't remember for sure).i figured i'd need at least $5000 to make the trip.

with where i am now and how much higher gas prices are,it would probably be close to double that.

The best part is you would destroy everyone if you went... IIRC its like a Ramp contest, a mud bog, a rock crawl, and a tank trap. this truck is so perfect for it it's not even funny.

You wouldn't even need a winch :D

but I understand the cost.

ya,i think it would do well.and once down at the event all the costs are covered...it's just getting there and back.i'd be looking at $1500 just for the ferry(that's both ways, not one way).then it's towing the thing 1500km to vancouver, then from there to wherever it's being held.and back.

gas,lodging,food,etc adds up fast.

Yes it does... I can't imagine the gas cost of trailering that truck behind stretch.

unless you would drive it down - I think you'd be the first one to win it with a truck that drove there lol

The event is in Hollister, CA if what i saw was correct.

eek.driving it down would use way more gas than trailering it.that thing's a pig!

plus, the tires would be worn right off by the time i got there.that's another 4g.oh ya,my nerves would be pretty much shot,too:icon_bounceblue:

it's a fun truck, but not so much for long highway trips:icon_thumby:

i wouldnt wanna drive just cause itd be busted by the end im sure and you would be stuck there. but then again you are gwaii... id assume youd get home

Haha that's true. might be cheaper just to put it in a container on a ship...

Hell he could probably figure out a way to win the event with stretch.

i am familiar with hollister.

spank some yeah, spank all......:icon_confused:

mmmmmmmmm......no. win? yeah i could see ya winning:icon_thumby:

i think 3 k would get ya there and back to the ferry. i will donate the locker fund if you enter. though i was thinking of putting that into a different competition vehicle that also isnt mine:D

be worth it just to meet you

ya,i can't see 'spanking' the field.there's some pretty wild rides that get into it.a win would take some luck and planning, but i think it's possible.

hell,i'd be happy with just finishing.i'm not sure that 3k from the ferry there and back is realistic, but i would also like to meet you, bobby.seems you've got the combination of intelligence, insanity, and experience balanced out nicely:icon_cheers:

i have seen some of the ttc videos. hollister at this time of the year is much wilder, naturally speaking for slipery in the trap.

i usually go every march but just decided not to, literally minutes ago... as we may only get to ride one day due to the weather.

theres some other events i would like to attend so the expense of it isnt justifiable for one day as it will be the only thing i do this year.

ttc would be best held right now.

video does the place no justice imo.

combination of intelligence,insanity,and experience

i was hoping to learn some lessons from you:D
