I,m wrenching on a 1986 Ford Ranger and am pulling the five speed manual trans and eventually the V-6 to replace the freeze plugs in between the engine and trans. My problem is the iclutch hose that runs from the cowl to the upper left side of the manual. Haynes doesn't mention anything as to how to disconnect the interior clutch rod that runs from the pedal thru the the cowl into the master cylinder then into the hydraulic hose and on to the transmission. Any suggestions, please. Also the Kroil he is referencing is the BEST rusted parts breaker in spray made by KANO Labs in Nashville TN available at most old fashoned parts stores under AREO KROIL, KANO KROIL, and a couple more versions excellent for soaking exhaust manifold bolts and the like. Thanks D.J.

So you're going to remove the 5 speed and put in a V6? The connector is a 'quick discconnect' and there is a couple of ways to remove the line...that have been discussed in the 4 banger forum a number of times...

As a quick overview, there is a white plastic ring just inside the coupling on the transmission side...use either the special tool or two screw drivers to pry back that white ring and the connector from the master will pop right out...in theory...

I found it worked best to push gently on the connecting hose while prying the white plastic ring back...not an easy task when you need three hands to do that, but it does come out easily...with a bit of practice...

The special tool is just a cut out piece of steel (from what I've seen) that goes around the coupling and allows you to push back both sides on the white plastic ring...

But if you do a search on that topic there was an older thread posted about a year ago that someone even provided an image of the tool...

Bon Chance...~
