I just bought a 1991 ford explorer4.0 with a 6 speed transmission. I was going to use the motor and transmission in my 1986 ford ranger super cab it has the 2.9 with a 5speed manual. But when I got thinking about it. The explorer is nicer than my truck. The ranger has 4" Skywalker soft ride coils and the Broncos 2 basterd pack springs with a set of Skywalker nitro shocks and the drop brackets for the ttb. I was wondering will these fit on the explorer. From what I can see is the coils should fit. But not sure about the coils leaves and the drop brackets.

Everything should swap over. The ex is heavier so the springs may be too soft, but it won't hurt to try.

Thank you for the response. If I do swap the parts over I'll Chang out the springs when I save up.

..with a 6 speed transmission...

I'd like to know more about this.. If that's not a typo details of what it is would be VERY nice.:D

That was not a typo. I have not got under it to look at the inspection plate. The shifts are so tight and quick I can barely feel them. I'm off Tues. I'll get under it and see.

Explorers of that vintage didn't come with anything but a 5-speed stickshift, or a 4-speed automatic. So if it has a 6-speed-anything, it definitely is something custom by a previous owner.
Would be curious about the details of that myself too.

Also be aware the Explorer rear suspension is spring-under-axle (SUA), and uses leaf springs with approx 2" more arch than Ranger leafs. So if you have say, 4" lift Skyjacker Ranger leafs, they will only give you ~2" lift on the Explorer after you've flipped the centerpins the other direction (a set of extended spring shackles can help make up most of that difference).

Yeah it is a custom swap. I have the bronco 2 bastard pack. I would only run it till I get the new set. My truck has been down or not running well. for a couple of years now. Getting tired of not having it. It is cutting into my fishing time.

I could not find a ID stamp or a riveted ID tag. But hope these pics help. The one of the pan. The bottom of the picture is the passenger side.

I installed the rear axle out of my ranger with the springs. I have to lengthen my driveline and get new shocks.

it has six shifts that are perceptable, 1-2-3-3locked-4-4locked.

but it is only a 4 speed gear wise. the converter lock up seems like and is effectively a baby gear.
