Hey guys, first just wanna thank the Ranger Station for all the great things it provides noobs like myself!

Ok, I just bought a 93 Explorer XLT for $100.00. I am getting conflicting info on parts that will fit my 96 ranger. I've been told the seats and glass from the side mirrors are the same and thats about it? I was under the impression that the ranger was a 93-97 era truck.....but was unclear on how the explorer fits in? SO.... does anybody know what parts, trucks are compatible with the 96 ranger? Something easy...like a list of yes and no's for part trucks. I'm going to part the 93 Explorer. I'll post another thread with pics and prices later. Thanks in advance guys. Tery (ohio)

A simple way to look at this, is that the first generation Explorer (1991-94) was based on the second generation Ranger (1989-92). Where it gets confusing, perhaps, is the Ranger changed to its third generation in 1993, and the Explorer didn't change until 1995. The 1993-94 Ranger interior design (mainly the dash), however, stayed the same as the earlier models, and it was also the same as the Explorer through '94. The 1995 Rangers got the new interior, which added airbags, and the Explorer got a complete redesign in '95. About this time engine management also changed from OBDI to OBDII, and interior systems' management began with the GEM.

The way that Ford overlapped the changes, like the delay in changing the Explorer until '95, and the Ranger exterior changing before the interior, does make it all pretty confusing to sort out. Generally, from 1995 on there's better compatibility between the models.

That's my spin on it, anyway. Once Ford put airbags and OBDII in them, I stopped buying new ones. Nothing against the new trucks, really; I just do my own wrenching and prefer dealing with old-school stuff.

you can swap the 4.0 and tranny (with the computers) into ur ranger. also the axles.
the body parts, not really, they wont line up right.

From 'body parts' on should be it's own sentance. One could get that confused easily (not to pick it apart or anything) I read it as the axles won't line up either..

As far as I know nothing from the body will work. Some parts from the interior probably will. As far as I know, all of the running gear will work. Also things like the 8.8 rear end, and D35 front end will work.

Great info guys. I am thinking I can use the motor, trans, 4x4 parts, seats and center console. After that, it is all for sale "dirt cheap". Change that......... I won't be using the motor and trans. My motor is fine and the trans isn't the same. My ranger doesn't have the A4LD. So.... all but the seats and console or for sale.
