I just hate when people pass their opinions off as facts to people that don't know any better. I never said the Ranger is a piece of shit, just that the Tacoma isn't. I happen to have both and my opinion is unbiased.

Anywho, I would go with a ranger. So far my truck has been as or more reliable than my old Camry. And unlike the Camry if you pop the hood you dont see plastic and electronics everywhere, just an easy to work on engine. I am a amateur when it comes to working on cars but I feel fairly competent whenever I work on my truck.

I love the 3.0. Though I would recommend 4.10's, you will take a hit in mileage but if your going 4x4 your not looking for prius mileage anyhow.

On my experience, Dealing with an 04 Ranger and 06 Tacoma equipped similarly, the Taco wins. It is more money however and if being frugal short term is a big thing, it won't be a good choice.
