Ranger on 2.5tons aka project fire in the hole

...end of the week? Must be nice!

well i been saving for it for a long time and collecting parts... and its only going to be rolling i dont think it will be ready for its first voyage till summer still gotta alot of stuff to buy for it...i still need alot of tubing and steel plate and steel prices here are thru the roof

i like it.

i do have one concern though, all that cutting and welding on the diff housing with the guts in there seems like a recipe for disaster-grinder dust is a pain to clean out of bearings.
nice work on the mohawking,though.

can i drive it???

ya that was the first one and i had to tear it all down and replace alot of the bearing anyhow and i pressure washed the whole chunk thats why i didnt care to much. on the back i took the center section out before i did anything.

thanks on all the comments guys i will keep you posted on the build.

ya,i noticed the center section was out....and it sure is easier fitting everything up with the gear in place, isn't it.:icon_welder:

how thick did you go on the new skids?

ya alot easier to fit everything especially since the center section ways close to 300 pounds lol....i went 3/8 plate on the center three peices that cover the bull gear then 1/4 plate on the rest

verrry nice im interested to see how this is going to turn out.

but on another note what exactly does mowhawking the diff do?:icon_confused:

It clearances it for a bit more ground clearance and so it slides off rocks and etc better and looks kewl

The factory skids are thin and soft, any mod is an improvement. While youve got the old one off, why not streamline it a little? And on the dueces big brother it brings oil capacity down from 12qts to 7qts with no ill effect. Little bit faster and cheaper services, numbers should be proportional on the duece.

Edit its about three inches of ground clearance on the 5 tons if done right.
