I'm looking to purchase a Ranger. I'm looking to spend less than $5500. I've found one in town that is a candidate: it's an '03 XLT ext cab with the 4.0L V6 and auto trans. It has 158k miles on it. The dealer wants $6k.
The KBB and Edmunds values seem to vary pretty widely. But regardless, the price is in the ballpark.
Are there specific things for this model I should watch out for? I gave it a test drive and it seems ok. I'll have my mechanic check it next week. But I thought i'd check with the experts here and see. Any worries about the 4.0L V6? Auto trans? ABS? Common failure points?
Also, I couldn't find the scheduled maintenance guidelines online anywhere--does anyone know what would be coming up? Is the timing chain replacement going to be soon?
And my biggest question, how much life is left in an engine with 158k on it? I don't put many miles on my car---maybe 3k/year. So it would take me 10 years to get to 190k.
thanks
