Hello all!

I've got a 1990 Ranger std cab with the long bed, and I am trying to find out what the dimensions are (really, just the width), as I'm pretty sure all the long beds are about 7ft.

Now, I know you're all probably thinking, "just go outside and measure it, dumbass!" and normally, yes, that would be the first course of action, but I currently don't have access to it since I lent it to a friend after his car got stolen. Also, it's currently about 2 degrees out here in upstate NY, and I figured the internet was a warmer option. :D

Basically, I just want to know if a queen sized mattress will fit lying as flat as possible over the wheel arches. I've got a bed cap on the truck, but I'm helping my friend move this weekend and there is also a dresser, and I really would like to see if I can fit both items in one trip. The mattress measures roughly 60 inches wide.

Thanks in advance for any info.

No it will not, my queen mattress fills my 6.5' F-150 box like a tonneau cover. It is quite a bit wider than my Ranger box.

It will stand on its side but will not lay flat.

Think the Ranger is just big enough to lay a 4x8 sheet of plywood flat and that's is.

Ok, yeah that's what was afraid of. Hmmm. I suppose there's always the "take the cap off and ratchet strap the hell out of it" route, but even that might be asking a bit much...

Thanks for the posts, guys.

I can't even fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood between my wheel arches, it's just a few inches short. Would really like to kick in the teeth of those at Ford who didn't feel like giving it the extra few inches.

Ford's original intent was to put 2x6's in the supplied slots fore and aft of the wheel wells to support the ends of they plywood with the arches supporting the center.

You had to run with the tailgate down no matter what bed you have... the whole thing was a compromise.

A fullsize is 4' between the wheel arches, the only real way to make a "compact" truck compact is to make it smaller/narrower.

No prob...leave the cap on...throw the dresser down flat inside...toss the queen mattress on top...jump in and reach out the windows and hold the mattress down with driver's and passenger's arms (coats optional). Actually saw this once decades ago...and it did work, for about a block...then the driver got cocky and sped up and their mamma's mattress went sailin' away. Borrow an F150 and you should be good to go.

Dresser in the bed, ratchet strap the matress and boxspring on top of the cap. Take it slow.
