I have a 1993 Ford Ranger 2.3L and while truck is sitting still it will idle somewhat high then back to normal this occurs every ten seconds or so, problem occurs as soon as you crank it up and continues after driving it awhile...what could it be?

Sound like it could be (not sure if this is the correct name for it) but the air by pass valve. Its either going to be mounted on the air box or on the intake. Its on round cylinder looking thing with a 2 wire plug plugged into it on the end. It controls the idle. Had the same problem on a 93 3.0 V6 and replacing that fixed the problem hope that helps

It's called an Idle Air Control Valve (IAC). And it should be mounted on your intake just past where the tube from your air filter attaches to the intake. Most Rangers have a red wire and a white wire with blue tracer that go to it.

you can take the idle air control valve off aand clean it with carb cleaner or elecrical parts cleaner. .let it sit and dry for a bit before putting it back on. you should pull the wire of of it and see if anything happens to the idle if nothing changes that is probably your issue.
