Ranger Fuel Capacity

People probably were complaining about running out of fuel so they lowerd the listed capacity for the '90 model year, but no changes to the fuel tanks themselves. :icon_rofl:

Maybe not the best info source, but I searched ebay. Never found a side tank that was not 17 gal.

But you have one.

Is your tank steel or plastic? Mine is molded plastic. If it were steel I think it would be difficult to get more capacity from the same space.

Plastic, best I remember. Had to pull the pump out right after I got the truck. Did it from the top by removing the bed. Maybe overall length would show a difference. I'm going to measure mine and see what it is.

Well, maybe saying more difficult is not what I meant to say, just thinking maybe that was the difference. I'm sure at some point the Ranger had a steel tank.

Look at LMCtruck.com They have fuel tanks listed, but I also am only seeing 17 gal tanks.

Fordparts.com (official Ford website for parts) doesn't list any actual tanks but lists parts for both 17 and 21 gallon tanks.

Tousley Ford parts department http://www.tousleyfordparts.com/ lists 17, 20 and 20.6 all in the side position but doesn't tell what the difference is between them.

And for some reason Rockauto.com doesn't list fuel tanks for Rangers.

I think your best bet is to drain the tank and fill it completely up as you were saying to find out if you really want to know what it is.

Yay! Post 1000 for me!

No problem. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

So if I have the single cab ranger with a 6 foot bed I have the 17 gallon tank?

I'm trying to calculate exactly how much it will take to get from l.a. to oklahoma
