Here's one for ya... 85 ranger 4x4 2.8l- new distributor, cap, rotor, TFI, coil, plugs and wires. Starts and runs great for about 10 minutes then cuts out, has fuel but won't fire again until it cools off. I've followed and inspected all the wiring, checked and cleaned my grounds, I suspect there is some electrical component that is overheating, but don't know where to start. I pulled codes 31 (egr), and 63 (tps) would either of these cause the symptoms described? Any help would be appreciated

Try a different TFI maybe? Sometimes they are bad from the get-go. I actually used to keep known working spare in the trunk of my Merkur XR4Ti (ford 2.3 turbo motor, has same stupid ignition you have) because those dang things die so much.

Ive tried 2 different TFI's new out of the box, I guess I could try my original, it would at least run for short trips.

Does that truck have a ballast resistor? I had a van once that had one and it was faulty. Did exactly what you describe. Would just die and you have to wait for it to cool to restart. $7 part back in 2001

I dont believe the tfi ignition systems have a ballast resistor, could be wrong...as i often am

sounds a lot like a dirty fuel filter or weak pump. Just saying because I have simmilar situations with many vehicles. Sounds dumb I know at least the fuel filter is cheap and easy to eliminate.
