Hello all,

Just finished a 1998 non-flex 3.0 motor into my 1999 flex 3.0 truck and thought I'd share the lessons learned. First off, the swap is really easy in hindsight. The only things you need to swap out are motor mounts and injectors (found that out the hard way after checking for vacuum leaks for hours. Also, ensure you use your original wiring harness for injectors and TB.

Next, is my 2 cents on the infamous 3.0 ping. This new motor had it. My old one did not. After once again looking for vacuum leaks, seafoaming, ect. I finally found a small exhaust leak where the headers come into the pipe. Upon re-tightening. SInce this leak was directly before my driver side 02 sensor. The fix rid my engine of pre-ignition and dropped the idle down to 800 rpms. Also, I'm certain this will improve my mpg; however, time will tell.

Anyways, just thought i'd share to not overlook exhaust leaks when dealing with pre-ignition. Hopefully it will save someone lots of time and frustration in the future.

An excellent first post. Thanks for the tips! and welcome to the Ranger Station!
