Hi guys! I buy a 88 ranger with a 2.3l...

I want swap it manual.
My question is... what transmission i could install...

I did a same swap in the past but my ranger had a 2.9l. I install a FM146.
The bell housing of the fm146 does fit on the 2.3?

Thanks

Welcome to TRS :)

FM 145 and 146 had a detachable bellhousing but were for 4x4s
I think the TKs(Toyo Kogyo) were used on 2WD, 4 and 5 speeds

If you have a 2WD then look for an M5R1(M5OD-R1, 5-speed) from an 1988-1997 2.3l 2wd Ranger or Mazda B2300
The M5R1 is a better manual transmission than the FMs or TKs but bellhousing doesn't detach so must be from/for a 2.3l Lima engine
1988-1997 will have the speedometer cable hook up you need for the 1988 dash

Your 1988 computer will have Automatic trans software inside, so will set codes and turn on CEL when its not connected to the A4LD transmission thats in there now, engine still runs fine, but you have been there done that with a 2.9l swap

Hello Mat, welcome to TRS. I can't tell you much about it but surely someone will.
I'm guessing your first language isn't english :)

Haha, I wrote this at least a couple hours before seeing there were new comments, and when I went to read them noticed it hadn't posted, so I clicked the "post" button then (after RonD had explained it to him ) :)

Ron covered the bases, same length so drive shaft is same length on the M5OD as the A4LD and trans crossmember stays in the same place I believe.

...or you could put a 2.9 in it. ;brownbag;

Simple. Efficient. Anonymous. So terrible and lazy yet with such a perfect level of DGAF swagger and obvious badassery, well. I need to photoshop my avatar again.

ignore the man from Saskatchewan.

he wants you to put a terrible bloated American sedan engine in your truck.

they are a towering monument to compromise.

This man from Saskatchewan doesn't even own a Ranger! I own four! ☠️

Thanks guys for your's informations!

This one is my fifth ranger but the first one with a 2.3l?...

I'm owning a 2011 Crown Victoria police interceptor too?

I do so own a Ranger! It just so happens that I modded the thing, and it now looks and drives like a 1995 Ford Taurus!

Question about the clutch/ brake pedals...

I found a 87 ranger in a scrap yard, what's the difference about a 87 clutch master cylinder vs a 88?

In a parts store, its not the same listing .

If i install 87 pedals in my 88 if they fit or not?

'88 is unique in that it has a different neutral safety switch. I'm sure the '87 will work but the '88 will be plug and play no problem.
