Would anybody happen to know what year the extended cab long bed was built? I know it was early to mid 80's but not sure exactly what year. I also know that it was a 2-wheel drive. Looking for a good frame to convert my 87 to ext cab long bed. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

it was never built as far as i know.

AllenD or dave R had/has one I think ,but he made it himself.
I don't think Ford ever produced one.

If you feel comfortable doing this then you could just weld on another 8" of frame rail on behind what you have. You'll also have to move the axle back a bit. Get a long bed first and measure all the differences on all that you can and then tackle it.

That's the only advice I can give you. I personally am not competent enough to do all that, but someone is.

There is one in a junkyard that is only a few miles from me. It's the only one I've ever seen. It is 2.9L 5 speed (I think) and 4x4. Not Sure about the year, but it is a first gen.

I just did a search on www.car-part.com and there's one in Lubbuck, TX from an '86 for $350. There's also one in Ruston, LA from an '83 for $250. That's all the search turned up.

i was playing around with that idea too. i photoshopped this. decided against it because it would not really provide any benefits and would be harder to manuver offroad with the longer wheel base.

Looks kinda cool, maybe. I think if you need that much space you might as well get a full size. I'll stick with my shortbed.

Long box with a super cab would make a nice mini-dually, but that would be a lot of work.

I know it isn't me.

though I have considered making one I haven't done it.

Ask DaveR.

If I did one it would be 4wd, but not for offroading
Supercabs are bad enough at high centering without
making it longer and ADDING rear overhang...

Yes, it would aversely affect turning circle, but for a highway runner that extra length would increase stability and a FOOT of cargo room has gotta be worth something.

All things considered I'd rather have a matching trailer made from
a long bed.... And that's what I'm doing making a 7foot Ranger trailer.

I've got the bed, the frame and the trailer axle (electric brake 3500#
with 5-on 4.5" bolt circle).
