i found out the hard way that my fuel gauge in my 95 splash 4.0 does not work. Any common thing go wrong these?

Yes, anti-slosh module.
It is on the back of the instrument cluster, so you must pull that out to repair or by-pass it.

You should probably check the sender wiring first just to be sure.
Under the truck drivers side near the fuel tank there will be a connector for the fuel pump power and fuel gauge sender.
Yellow/white wire goes to the fuel gauge.
Unplug this connector
Turn on key
Fuel gauge needle should go to FULL with wire disconnected
Now use a short wire and Ground the yellow/white wire
Fuel gauge needle should go to EMPTY

If this happens then sender in the tank is broken
If needle doesn't do this then issue is with gauge or wiring but usually gauge.

Alright I'll try that next time I have it up on the lift. What does the anti slosh module look like . Is it the unplugable computer chip style thing on the back of the cluster?

Also, it's apparently fairly common for the float in the tank to go bad. At least common enough that the local dealer (small place, closed now I think) had two cases of the floats in stock.

i soldered in a new capacitor on the anti-slosh module and the gauge shot right up to half a tank. it was stuck at just under a quarter. and its now dropping slowly like it should as i drive. just hard to tell how well its working without an odometer

Good work :)

1995 regular cab should have a 16gal tank, extra-cab 20gal

Still not working. Properly but I now have a general idea of how much gas I have. If I keep it at a half a tank or above it seems to work fine. I'm going to try a sending unit from a buddy's parts truck see if that helps
