Hey guys. It's been awhile since I posted anything. I got my truck up and running. Unfortunately she's on her way out. I've been thinking about putting a v6 in my eighty five ranger but I don't know what would be a good engine. Any ideas will help. I've thought about the Eco boost but that just seems like it would be way out of my price range. I'm hoping to make it a rally truck basically. So new suspension and everything but I don't know what would be a good engine.

I would think a 4.0L OHV out of an explorer or 92-00 ranger would be a safe bet for what you're looking for, plus their easier (and cheaper) to get your hands on than an eco-boost. There are plenty of threads on the forum detailing the swap into the first gens to point you in the right direction.

Alternatively, since you mentioned it being a rally truck, you might consider a 2.3 turbo out of a thunderbird turbo coupe/SVO Mustang, but it will be more expensive should you decide to turn up the wick.
