I did some searching, but didn't find anything on this specific issue, so I figured I'd post a thread.

I have a 2005 Ranger, got it a few weeks ago, previous owner installed a JCV (KW-XR610) double-din head unit. Two problems:
1. Radio only turns on with key in 'run' position, not ACC
2. Radio isn't held in securely, and there's no obvious securing points for it.

Re 1, I took the radio out and backprobed the truck wiring harness - the BLK/PNK wire should have 12V in Acc and Run, but I only get power in Run? I know it's not good to leave the ignition in the 'run' position for long periods of time, but if I want to listen to the radio when the truck isn't running, I'd have to leave it in 'run'.

Re 2, I know this is a pretty open question and a million answers, but where the radio goes just doesn't seem to have any mounting points - I'm used to there being mount points on the side or at the back. For now, I just have double-sided foam tape on the bottom and sides to try to keep it somewhat in place.

You need a proper switched wire, pull that sucker out put it in acc and look for a powered wire, then put it in key on and double check. Problem solved. As far as securing it, unless that model came with a double din it might not have the rail to secure it. Just add a simple support on the bottom again problem solved.

I was surprised that the wire leading to the radio was only hot with the key in 'Run' The wiring diagrams showed that wire should be hot in ACC and Run. It makes me wonder if somebody messed up the wiring when the alarm (installed before I got the truck) was installed. Anybody else have the radio on only in Run? Any other thoughts about the BLK/PNK wire only being hot in run? The solution, of course, is to trace down a wire that's hot with Acc/Run and run it to the radio, but I'd rather use the stock wiring if possible.

Pinkblk may be only run/start but as others say find a power near the radio thats run/acc or even all three, not recommended but will work.
