I have a 95 Ranger XLT with a working am/fm/cassette player. I want to swap it for a factory am/fm/cd player. Any advice on any difficulty with this? It appears to be an easy swap. The dimensions and mounting bracket appear the same as my 98 ranger XLT. Should be just a pull out and plug in the new unit. Looking for any advice. Thanks.

Yegh installing a radio was one of the more easy things ive done to my truck. I dont know how your radio is, but to remove a radio, usually, you have to insert a thin "key" into each side of the radio. check out google or maybe even the tech library. This process is relatively universal.

The wiring might be different. I think they might have changed by 98. When I had still had my 2000 ranger I tried to put in my 95 ranger radio but the wiring harness didn't line up.

I'm 99.9% shure wiring is different. I attempted to do the same thing as I had a Cassette Player, and as we are in the 21st century, I felt like I at least needed a CD player (even that today seems old). I tried plugging in one from a 2002 F-150, and it wasn't a plug and play. I remember doing research and found an adapter somewhere, but can no longer find it. If you really want the new stereo, then buy an aftermarket harness (for like JVC headunit or something) and plug it in. From there, cut the ends and tape them to the corresponding wire in a pigtail from your new stereo (Can be found at any junkyard and can cost proably 1 Dollar or maybe even free:icon_thumby:). That's the only thing I can think of doing, unless you want to cut your existing harness, but I doubt you want to do that.
