Dunno if this is the right place to start this discussion, but I am sure Gump or somebody else will move it if not.

My truck developed a leak over the weekennd. My hose connections are dry , but the passengers side is dripping fluid. I'm guessing the rad has gone south. I am always anxious to increase the cooling capacity of my vehicles. Can anybody recommend a better radiator than what my truck came with? I like motorcraft parts, but I would be willing to try aftermarket if anybody has positive experiences with an off brand...

I think some have installed an Explorer radiator, which has a double row core instead of the single core. Has your truck had cooling issues that is driving the desire for more cooling? If not, then a radiator with more cooling capacity isn't really needed. Now, an auxiliary cooler for the transmission might be an idea. If you do that, install the auxiliary cooler into the system first then run it to the OEM cooler. That way, if the auxiliary cooler over cools the transmission fluid, the OEM cooler in the radiator can heat it back up.

As far as brand to go with, I don't have a recommendation.

Never had a cooling issue, i just like overkill:) Ill look into an aux transm cooler. I never tow anything, but it doesnt hurt to make stuff better…

More cooling won’t hurt anything. The thermostat will keep the engine from being over cooled. In some vehicles, engine temp is important for proper operation efficiency and emissions. As long as the right thermostat is in it, everything should be fine.

I have used Spectra radiators (and gas tanks) successfully in my '75 Ranchero.

Well, I rolled the dice, disregarded mikkelstuff's advice, and ordered a three row from amazon.

Wish me ruck. I will post successes or failures...
