Just seeing what some of you have used for radiators in your 5.0 Rangers. I read a few are using 4.0 radiators.

I have a 92 Explorer I am swapping in a 97 Explorer 5.0 with the 4R70W, Retaining the AC and using the stock dash and trimming the air box.

I plan to use the fan clutch set up, from the 97 Explorer.

Is any one using the 4.0 radiator on there 5.0s I would prefer an off the shelf part that I can buy at an auto parts store in case of a failure, I am open to all options. I will be buy a new radiator either way. I will not use my 20 year old radiator.

I could get the stock Explorer clutch fan on mine with the 4.0 Explorer radiator in the stock location... but I couldn't turn the fan (it would hit the tank seam on the passenger side)

I'm going to be using a 5.0 exploder rad for my swap.

I got a fan shroud off of one to monkey around with and check fitment. It will take a 3" BL to keep just the shroud from poking out the bottom of the frame rails. I don't know how much more there is to the radiator above or below the shroud but IMO it will probably fit... fit tightly but fit.

Even with the Explorer water pump I don't think you are going to be able to run the Explorer fan though without pushing the rad ahead... and then it will bucking for the same space as your condenser. :dntknw:

Mine I'm going to be using a taruas fan that is actually already mounted to the rad. so I'm good there to, plus had a painless writing setup on it. It use to cool an exploder engine that was supercharged that was under the hold of a ranger.

A far as poking out the bottom, Ill make a plate to protect it if needed and I have no problem cutting up my core support either.

Hey dangerranger. The 2nd gen explorer Radiator is much wider then the 1st gen explorer radiator. I do not think the 5.0 explorer one would fit with out the aid of a 3" body lift, since the frame is not wide enough.

I just acquired an 2wd 84 ranger with a 302 swap so most of the hard work is done for me, but the radiator in it currently is on its last legs and we're seriously doubting the cooling abilities of it based on its size, it appears to be out of a pinto or something similar. So from what I've gathered, the best option to replace it is a rad out of a 91-94 5.0 Explorer?

I've got a James Duff V8 Ranger radiator that will be out and ready to sell to some lucky member this weekend. Brass/Copper....

You should never use those pull through plastic ties to mount a fan to a radiator with an aluminum core. The Taurus fan is a 2 speed fan. Make sure your setup does not supply power to both high and low speed wires at the same time. That will burn out the motor.

4.0, 4dr, AC, Automatic trans. Anything else will get you the same radiator as what you had originally.

5.0 Explorers didn't come out until '96 and then they where the big tall things like what is in my previous link.

I did use them, I also made aluminum brackets that very firmly attach the fan to the radiator. Basically I think the ties just hold it in place until I get the brackets tight.

The ties suck, I could never get the thing to tighten up against the radiator.
