I need to replace my radiator, now has 2.3L looking forward to putting in a mustang 3.8 or a 4.0. Will the radiator for the 4.0 bolt into place, with hoses and all with my current four banger motor still there. Not wanting to get the smaller radiator only to have to swap it out again with the motor swap. Thanks, Chris

I have a 4.0L radiator in my Ranger and it was an easy swap. You'll need a lower radiator hose for a '85-87 Thunderbird Turbocoupe and take your current upper radiator hose with you to the hardware store and find a 45* copper fitting that will fit in the middle as well as 2 hose clamps (it looks hokey, but I've had mine set up like that since 2009 with the same hose...), set it up to look like this:

It's an easy swap, but the lower hose looks a little goofy... I zip tied it to the center of the radiator to hold it up a bit as it sticks down pretty far... that picture is from 2009 I think, it's cleaner under there now...

Thanks for the response. The pic for the top end looks more than easy enough. No pic for lower rad hose but I think I can figure it out for myself.

The lower hose is easy, I don't think I modified it, just put it on, ran it for a while before I zip tied it in the middle so that step isn't even necessary :)

That's the only picture I have of my lower hose I think... again, it's an old picture and there's less oil leaks now :). The top hose with the copper fitting is pretty slick and works well, it just makes the bend in the middle go the other way.

You may want to look at the automatic version of the 4.0 rad, I believe it is a dual core, whereas the manual version rad is a single core.

Yeah, mine is the automatic, A/C, towing radiator for the Explorer, biggest one they had
