well, my lower rad hose has been weeping just the tiniest bit for quite a while now. I need to replace my thermostat, and if I'm gonna have everything drained, then ima take care of this hose matter too. My dad brought me home a new lower hose from the parts store he works at, and the hose openings appear to be a smaller diameter than the old hose. My dad and I fought and fought with this damned hose, and could not get it onto the radiator flanges. So I thought well maybe he brought home the wrong hose. So I went to AutoZone to see if they had one, and sure enough it's the exact identical hose, same size openings and all. What am I doing wrong here? I got some radiator hose grease, maybe that'll help, but do I need to keep fighting with this thing until it finally slides on?

Thanks for your words of help guys.

A hose should not be that hard to put on. Must be the wrong size. Take the old hose to the parts place and they should be able to match it up whether or not the book says it's the right one. Then keep a record of the part number in your glove compartment for next time.

Wd-40 works good to get hoses on as well as old ones off. It is actually good for the rubber and contains no silicone. Most of the time it's good after a few days to re-tighten new hoses,my upper hose started leaking after getting warmed up a few times.

When ever i replace rubber hoses or exhaust hangers and their a tight fit i just use a hair dryer to warm them up and they slide right on just like fixing a garden hose.
