decent progress:

Got it running and drove it a few miles to my house to finish it. Had to take the back roads to avoid any cops.

alright, with all the time that you spend wiring the aftermarket dash with switches/gauges/lights etc. you can reuse the stock dash for 1/4 of the price and half the time.

1. Go down to the local auto store and buy the big fiberglass repair kit, a few hose clamps and a sharpie.
2. mock up the vent assembly to the cage and mark it up with the sharpie, take the
vent out and place on the ground.
3. separate the wiring harness from this and cut away the previously marked spot.
Check for clearance issues and adjust accordingly.
4. Now fill it in with fiberglass. Dont worry about what the fiberglass looks like, you
will never see it.
5. reinstall the stock dash with whatever bolts will fit, and whatever doesnt bolt in, use
the hose clamps.
6. ??????
7. profit!

haha I just walked in the house from re-installing my stock dash :icon_thumby: thats pretty much what I did..way glad i didn't do a sheetmetal one. looks way cool with tubing running through it and keeps it feeling warm and luxurios lol.. I cut it up pretty bad to make it an easy fit then used a grey dashmat I had laying around to make it look like it never happened.

Wow, pretty damn good for Harbor Freight :D I've been wanting a "cheap" tube bender I might have to look into them now! Cage looks great man, GOD I want your truck!!

i would highly recommend anything other than the kinker for a cage. Look into lowbucktools if you want a decent bender for less.

yeah i wouldn't really recomend it either..its a pain to get it to bend right but it is possible. anything under 60 degrees i couldn't tell ya wich bender did it.

I'm a loooooonnnngggg ways away from needing a cage, mostly just bumpers and spare tire carriers for now, probably wouldn't do anything more than 45° on those. I have heard a lot of horror stories from that bender, that's why I was surprised lol.

And damn good deal on the windshield too! I had a windshield replaced once and that s**t was like $200 for a little import POS haha!
