you should look into putting on a hi capacity oil pan, 302's dont hold enough oil in the stock pan, so when your keep it over 5000 rpm for more than 30 seconds-1min all the oil gets pumped to the top end and cant drain back fast enough so it starves the mains of oil.

If that's the case, wouldn't it be better to fix the drain back problem? Especially as the engine is apart? Is there any place you can link to that would give more info, such as how and where to enlarge drain-back holes.

I am going to a bigger pan.. Also when I build my next motor I will assist the drain back by running a line from the back of the head directly to the pan.
 
I cant remember the name but theres also a coating you can do inside the block that lets oil drain back faste
