Alright so I have a 91 Eddie Bauer X it's got 3.73s in it and i'm gonna lift it with a 3" body lift and a 2" suspension lift and I want to run 33s can I get 4.10s and be good or could I do a hybrid m5od swap and keep the 3.73s? Also is the hybrid transmission the same as a 2.9 transmission? I could just put the bigger clutch and do that right? My friend said I would need 4.56s because the explorer is heavy. Either way I can get a hybrid tranny already built for 150 and the tranny a front center section and disk rear with 4.10s for 350. What should I do?

I don't think the change from 3:73 to 4:10 is worth the time or expense. I think a lot depends on the local terrain. If it's extremely hilly where you are you might find 4:56 (or deeper) more comfortable, otherwise it's quite liveable. I have been running 33's with 3:73 gears for years, and it works for me.

The tranny gear swap isn't going to change your 4th or 5th gears at all, which are most important for driveability on the highway (and fuel economy too).

I would leave the tranny alone and run the 4.56 gears in the axles.
