Does a Cobra 40 channel CB radio pull more power then a Cell phone does when its charging?

Reason im asking, i installed my 40 channel cobra in my F150, and i used the 12V plug off an old cell phone charger.

yes. quite a bit more than a cell phone.

but you should be ok. I run an inverter off my 12v plug and run a power bar while powering my laptop computer and charging my dewalt drill battery. sometimes I run two laptops and charge other crap at the same time.

I dont think a CB radio is going to harm anything. the worst case is it blows a fuse in your dashboard

if i recall, the cigerette lighter runs through a 10amps fuse. you'd need a helluva CB to draw the 140 watts needed to blow that. most CB's transmit at a legally limited 4 watts, and will only draw slightly more than that due to losses inside the radio.

The fuse on my 40 channel Cobra is a 2 amp fuse. Which is actually too much because I will fry the unit before that ever pops.

so you cut the cord on an old cell phone charger and wired it to your cb???

i thought the chargers only put out like 1.5 volts??? anyways--do it and keep an eye and a nose out for burning wires
