So I'm planning on getting an engine for my 2010 4.0L sohc and I'm thinking it should be a direct swap with a gen 3 2011 4.0L? Only thing to caution is the ecm or what?

I moved this over to the 4.0L engine forum.

You will likely just swap all your 2010 engine dress and engine harness onto a replacement long block. The long blocks should be the same.

Thank you. Would it be reasonable to install an aftermarket oil pump to prolong a timing chain repair?

A 2011 should be a direct swap,

2004 to 2011 is 5th gen
Oh I've been thinking I had a 3rd Gen for sometime now hah. Thanks. But is there any other possible upgrades I could do during the swap. As far as I know an aftermarket oil pump for the timing chain?

The biggest problem with the timing chain shannigans is lack of maintenance.

A new oil pump couldn't hurt a thing. The oil pan is two pieces and pump i believe can be changed by just removing the lower pan.

Caution... removing the oil pan would likely void any warranty on a used engine.

Ok the engine is warrantied for 6 months so that's good to know.

I've read a more powerful pump will lubricate the chain better with full synthetic oil. So I've been considering it

Not if the oil passages are plugged up from lack of maintenance.

I've used transmission fluid. It brings out some large chunks. Could make things worse if you aren't lucky.

i have used transmission fluid and that engine flush junk. be sure to get some cheap oil to run through after you do the flush with either, before you put your good oil in.
