Quick power out of a 2.9???

You could tear down the engine and bore out the cylinders...if you want to go through that much trouble. Personally it would be easier to just swap the engine and tranny to a v8.

You'd probably lose any extra power from boring the cylinders because of the extra heat created.

True...damn, you just gotta kill my idea don't ya...haha

Ice Packs from the freezer?

yes it can but I wouldn't expect it to live very long.

you are a stubborn bunch. have you ever tryed a 5.0 swap?
thats the funny part, a kid getting pissy about 2.9l's since he couldn't wrap his head around whats said and then daring peeps to say you can't do a v8 swap even though its been done to death?:bawling::icon_rofl:

last time i went wheeling with a v8 rig he was walking back for gas since my bro said sure he'd sell his gerry can to him for 10$ a gallon:icon_thumby:
my 5.0l is in my stang where it belongs,i have no need for the extra work, cost, power and fuel consumption in my truck.reread your title a 4.0l is the best way to get-

nobody told you what to do. if you can't discuss pros and cons without getting an attitude and if you don't understand the advise given silence is the best way to not make yourself look like a fool:icon_idea: :thefinger:

It depends on his goals. If he wants to go fast, I would tell him that a V6 probably isn't want he wants. Not that it can't go fast, but by the time it's all said and done, you'll have a hopped up 4.0L trying to be a 5.0L, when he could just have a 5.0L and have a better platform to build off of and his money would be better spent for power vesus $. IMO

If he just wanted more power to hit the trails and retain fuel economy, a 4.0L would make sense. FWIW, I wasn't impressed with my friend's 4.0L SOHC Explorer at all. The point is that it wasn't made to be fast. If you're going to spend money on something to go fast, might as well put it into something that was made to do just that.

dude, where is everyone getting this trails thing from. i own a 2wd. why do i caqre about the gas milage and trail performance? thanks for your opinion. I like 4.0's but in my 2wd a 4.0 wont give me anything over my 2.9 except power, and in some peoples opinions milage. but if i wanted power a 5.0 is a far better base for building HP. plus a 600 horse 4.0 would be Incredible and expansive like crazy, however a 600 horse 302 wouldn't be that spectacular.
If i had a 4x4 and wanted offroad performance things would be different. we're arguing different points here

Pass the crackpipe, you've had quite enough.
