quick OHC Temp question

I installed my OHC last weekend and my temp sensor is about 10-20 degrees F off. It will fluctuate just fine, but it reads way hotter than it is outside. The sensor is mounted on frame under passenger side door, shielded from any exhaust piping etc.

-I dont feel like crimping and clamping the wires but if the temp send and feed were accidently switched, would that account for wrong readings?

-YES, I did use the VSS line also, so that has nothing to do with it.

I might just have to get under the truck and switch the 2 temp wires, but I don't have a lot of knowledge with resistors, etc. Maybe someone has a quick answer for me. Maybe a bad sensor? I got it from the yard. I don't know if they go bad easily.

Thanks

you Might Have high reading due to the heat reflecting of the road. You might move the sensor out to the front of the truck near the grill, this might get you a more accruate reading. But just a FYI these are really never that accrute, mine is always about 3-5 degrees warmer than it says. and on start up it will always read way hot, Yesterday mine read 117 then I drove 10mile and it was reading better 91.

i don't know maybe it is heat from the pavement. When I start the truck it is like 95 (84 ambient), then makes its way to 110 or so then when im highway speeds, its reads 130 ish!

I do not believe you would be getting any readings if the wires were switched up. The sensor works on resistance, so if you have something along the way that is introducing excessive resistance into the circuit that would throw readings off at a consistent level. You could also just have a bum sensor. The sensor I put in mine is spot on with the temperature, so it's not impossible to get a good one.
