Are the outter Cs cast stel or cast iron? the radius arms are cast steel so they can be welded to like normal. but are the Cs?

Cast steel, just like the radius arms. Both should be heated to be welded though, and let cool slowly.

I was thinking forged, but remember a welder buddy of mine saying they were cast steel....either way you can weld to them...

Drop forged. Just like you see stamped into some tools and chain hooks. Gives it that 'cast' look.

Thanks for clearing that up...I'm gonna have to smack the 'welder' buddy of mine....

-andrew

Most people think they are cast iron. The salvage yards buy the pieces as cast iron.
Real easy way to tell the difference, drill a hole in something that you know is cast iron then try to drill a hole with the same bit into a scrap knuckle or "c".
