Ok, I know that Class 7 is what the Ranger falls in and that there are stock and modified classes. Can anyone tell me what the differences are between these classes:

Class 7: Open mini trucks.
Class 7S: Stock mini trucks.
Class 7SX: Modified mini trucks.

What is the Sportsman class?

All I can find out about it is a little bit from this article:

http://www.off-roadweb.com/features/0803or_05_nissan_titan/index.html

Thanks. Sorry to sound like such a newb.

class 7s is a ranger with limited travel and a stock motor ( 4.0 with intake)

class 7sx is ranger with unlimited travel and any motor.

sportsman class is a cheaper version of a trophy truck. f150 with stock frame, racing suspension, engine, roll cage, all the safety standards just not a million dollar vehicle.

Thanks.

I thought is was just either 7 or 7s. The 7sx looks new to me.

I use to have a copy of the SCORE rules, but their a few years old and I can't find them. They're definitely out of date.

Is the Sportsman class fairly new?

mini stock, is just that.Stock truck class.cage and other safety items is about the limits.

class7s stock mounting points on the suspention. You can beef and plate anything you want pretty much.run any shock you want.just cant poke threw the hood.stock track and wheel base +/- 2inches. motor is limited to 3.0L's max

7sx is the same as 7s, but you can run 4.0l's max.

class 7, is pretty much open. track width 78 inches max. stock frame rails. 4.5L max(can run the busch 4.5L v-6 ford here)shocks are open, can run rear link set ups.you can also move suspention points around.

ford motors in ford trucks, chevy motors in chevy trucks etc for all

sportsman, has changed alot form what it use to be, to what it is today.Today its more of the "run what you brung" or if the truck dose not fit in to one of the "class" trucks or buggys.
sportsman is pretty much wide open. I belive in SCORE you have to have working doors and a sheet metal cab.Other than that its open.

Don't forget Class 3.

According to the SCORE rule Book Class 3 is:
PRODUCTION-Short Wheelbased 4x4

(108 inches maximum)

Vehicles built from a 4-Wheel drive utility type vehicle.
Vehicle must have been series produced in quantities of at least 5,000 units within a 12 month period & be readily available to the general public in the U.S.A. Must be a 4-Wheel drive vehicle capable of being driven through all four wheels
No pickup trucks allowed in this class.

So does that meen if someone runs a longer leaf and shackle flip in the rear they have to be in class 7 or sportsman since it's not the suspensions stock mounting point?

If that was the case, you would be going up against some radical linked rear suspension Ranger's.

Sportsman sounds like a class where you could find a 5.0L Ranger.

is 7s &7sx you can run a spring that is as long, as the longest production stock mini.....And I belive that is a toytoa at 57.5 inches long.

So for a ranger, you can run a 57.5inch long spring. All the 7s(x) ranger I have seen have had the rear shackle fliped. if you go longer on the spring, then yes you would have to run in 7, or sportsman.OR you "could" enter Trophy Truck and get ran over.

sportsman you can find V-8 rangers. Can find some pretty crazy rangers really. You would find a bigger sportsman class in MDR than SCORE in gen.

So what's to keep someone from building an all out V-8 Ranger that's borderline Trophy Truck and entering it in the Sportsman class? I'd really like to see the rules on these classes, but I don't want to spend $75.00 to join.

in SCORE, you could run in sportsman with a near Trophy truck. You could run pretty much anything in sportsmen. As you not racing for points.

BITD (best in the desert) another race promoter that runs races in the states has a class for "mini trophy trucks" that's a free for all.

Ford, has a pretty good payback in BITD to the mini stock and 7s

MDR has the 1400 and 1450 class. The only rule is the doors must work and the cab must be metal. Can find just about ever way to build a ranger here.

way back in the day, Robbie Gordon ran a "ranger" trophy truck.early 90's era

Robby Gordon.

I was very dissapointed when he switched to Chevy.

i remember this one team down here viva wings it was called they put a v8 in their class 7 open and got their but handed to them soooooooo baaaaaad hhaahahahha

yeah 7sx can run 4.0 and class 7 open

the local races we have down here (NOT SCORE) theres only class 7open and 7s but we run 4.0 in this class in the record series, Essor, etc.

honestly almost all the 7s racers down here dont really bother building up trucks to score regulations theyre real tough asses some times and most of us dont run chromoly cages and the local races down here get up to 20 or more 7s trucks great fun and competition , all the races are usually around 200 miles its really afordable and easy compared to the baja 1000

have to edit this part. its been bumped up to 85 inchesw max track width now.

there are lots of high dollar rangers out there that run the 7 open class. i will ahve to run in this class as my truck def wont fit in the other classes. The way i see it is you can put tons of money into your tuck but if it aint built right or the driver cant drive the truck right you get no where and ill walk on by them. BITD made the 1400 and 1450 where the 1400 is more geared towards the guys that have high dollar machines and are really good in the class. the 1450 is for more of the weekend racer and wants to be semi competive

good catch on the 78 inch track width..........

I looked on BITD.com and they are also putting a 85 inch track width on the mini trophy class.

Tayco is right about not as many 7s type of trucks in SCORE any more as in the smaller race series.

yes sir! score and BITD are pertty close on rules between the two. i figure if you can pass BITD tech then you can race any series as i think BITD is a little stricter on safety stuff.
