Questions about fender flares on my '89...?

ok this is the pic i was talking about. its a buddy truck and it has full width axles and 31x10.50s, the flares stick off just enough to look good i love them

Ya i want something like that, but how would i mount them? I would need the actual fender there lol

And for sure im gonna put on bigger tires. When i get cash im gonna get a 4-6" suspension lift, 3" BL, and put on something like 31"s. Depending on how that looks i might get coil spacers and such too just to go all out lol

I just obviously would like that to at least not have holes in it. I'm not trying to make my truck all shiny, but i want an agressive heavy lifted beast of a truck that i wont cry if i mess up on the odd offroad trip (which eventually it happens to us all lol). I was thinking if there was some flare kit that i could just cut out my rusted part and weld that in place, that would be absolutely perfect lol :P

just don't do the BL and get some of the smallest glass fenders you can find. you'll be able to clear 31s easy like that.

fiberglass fenders would give you enough clearance to not need a BL. Check out the prerunner section for some glass. or google glassworks unlimited or Fiberwerx

w 4-6" plus a 3" BL you would fit close to 38" tires. to fit 31" all you need is a leveling kit

Yes but im trying to get a HUGE lift going lol. Odds are i will probably fit bigger tires, but its not like i will need much more. This is my DD.

And do fiberglass fender look rounded and out of place on this gen? I am not going for a prerunner look... lol Not to mention, for the rear i would need to get whole new boxsides right? Theres a pricey reason why i dont just get new boxsides to begin with :/

The gen 1 glass looks good if you find the right ones. and fiberglass is a fair bit cheaper than stock replacements. just look around some classifieds.

Does anyone know of a good place to buy these? Im in canda so im guessing shipping will be outragous lol

Hey Boggin I think those flares are the same as mine on my BII and if so they were, if I am correct, a factory option. They simply just bolt on to the fender well lip and wouldnt fix his problem. An option would be to get the flower bed edging plastic stuff from your local Home Depot or the like and use it for flares. It will bend to the shape you need it too and is flexible enough to take impact or at least a little bit anyhow. only problem would be figuring out what to attach it to. You could always get the fender patch panels from LMC but you probably already thought of that.
Here are mine I was talking about:

Here?

They have the bushwacker cut out fenders for 83 - 92 rangers. if you have to chop more then you need to attach, you can always get some sheet metal tacked on to bold them to?

Im thinking these would look a bit goofy on gen 2... anyone done them before?

It looks like ill probably have to find someone that can just weld on sheet metal like normal... Putting on a new box isnt an option for me because i have nothing to do that with and have no idea where to even start lol. :/

This is a bit off-topic... But i dont need flares with big tires if i have sufficient lift right? Where would it border on needing it? Like im sure i had stated on here before, i want to at go with a 6" suspension, and 3" body lift. And im thinking 33" tires now for sure. Shouldnt have a problem right? Where might i? lol thanks

Maybe but once you lift it and put the larger wider ties on it they will fit much better (as in look better lol). Well putting a new box on requires a t55 torqx bit and a impact gun if its hard on there. then you just unbolt the fuel filler neck and unplug the taillights and get a friend or 2 to pull it off. then put the other one on in reverse order.

And not with that much lift you would not need flares for bigger tires. :icon_thumby:

oooookaay... lol so i would need to find another ranger 89-92' with a good box... that may be tricky as most trucks would be like mine here lol. And i am asuming that my automotive shop class in school would have the tools. How long do u think this would likely take with no previous knowledge doing it? Thanks

Well if it wasn't super rusted... I would say maybe half an hour to an hour? . Its really just the 6 bed bolts (hardest part), 3 bolts for the filler neck, and 8 phillips screws for the taillights. :icon_thumby:
