What is the best way to pro long engine life on these 4.0 motors. The last ranger I had was a 3.0 and the head went in it.

Thank you for any advice.

Regular maintenance and reasonable demands on the engine. I had a 1991 3.0 with just under 320k that might still be going if I hadn't got in a hurry, and I now have a 1998 4.0 with over 235k still running strong. Neither engine has ever been rebuilt to my knowledge. I just change the oil and filter every 5k or less along with the other regular maintenance stuff and I keep in mind that they're just V-6's.

Treat them right and they usually return the favor.

Never, ever, overheat the engine..........EVER!

Don't try to drive that last mile home, shut it off at the first sign of over heating or you WILL crack the head or blow a head gasket.
This applies to any newer engine design.

So to that end, flush and replace coolant every 2 years as speced, change the oil.

My '94 is above 300k now, on the bottom end, I did have to redo the heads....I tried to make it home, serves me right, lol.
