Hi Guys,

I have a 2003 ranger 4x4 with the fx4 package. I have the open differential on it.I was wondering if it's possible to swap the complete axle in the back and get a used one of a fx4 level 2 with the torsen limited slip differential. Would i have to change anything else on the truck to have that done? Any feedback would is appreciated.

Thanks

You could do the swap but very expensive from a yard. Last I checked was one four hundred miles away for $1000. Cheaper ways to go.

I'd buy a unit to lock it.
there are a lot of threads on them, and their different aspects.

but YES it is possible.

what is the gear ratio on your stock axle? i dont remember what the fx4 had. i know a level2 has a 4.10. if yours isnt a 4.10 you need to swap the front diff also.

I thought LSD was a standard part of all the FX4 offroad packages since the FX4 package came out. Are you sure the stocker isn't broken?

'03-up FX4 had a regular Ford limited-slip standard.
'03-up FX4 Level II had the Torsen.
Unless the rear has been changed or broken it should have a limited-slip already.
A Detroit True Trac is the same thing as a Torsen and you can swap one into you existing rear axle.

'02 FX4 had the Torsen(31spline)
'03-up FX4 had a regular Ford TracLoc limited-slip standard(28 spline).
'03-up FX4 Level II had the Torsen 31spline.

Detailed it a little better.... more accurate.

And all Fx4 models are 4.10:1.

I have a '05 LII axle in my truck now.....with an open carrier and an Aussie locker. Bought it for a whopping $150 with 38,000 on the clock. It's all about being at the right place at the right time. Steer clear of Early '02 Fx4 axles.....the Torsens like to blow up.
