A friend of mine just came over after he got off work. He wanted to see my new Yakima Basketcase I installed today. While he was going over my truck (he is a retired Ford tech) he said that it might be a good idea to add 1/4 wheel spacers at the rear to bring the rear tires out to match the width of my front tires as I have a spindle lift. It has been lifted for a very long time). Would any of you guys say 'yay or nay' to me doing this? My buddy said my truck would ride and handle much better. I have never done this before (using a wheel spacer). I have heard other people say that adding a real wide wheel spacer could cause wheel bearing issues (never have seen it proved on any of the off road shows and magazines I have seen and read).

What do you guys think of this idea?

Having a narrower track width in the rear will actually help with cornering/turning radius.

I wouldn't waste my money on spacers.

Thanks for that. My Ranger really corners very well. I was surprised after I lifted it and even when I added the bl how well it handles. It is very stable. So...adding a 1/4 wheel spacer will cause it not to handle as well you think??

Probably not...but is getting a 1/4" per side worth the money or effort? I highly doubt it. Who's going to notice that?

1/4 inch isnt worth the money or the effort. Plus is you have aftermarket wheels and tires they have mostly likely given you an extra quarter inch track anyways. if you were talkin 1-1 5/8 inches, thats a big difference and very noticable, but still uneccessary. You can do an axles swap and get the wider track and a better axle all in one if its that important to you. I dont know about truck axles, but the 98- older 8.8 inch mustang axles are 3/4 inch shorter on either side than the 99-newer.

Thanks for the info, guys!!!!
