question about clutch fluid resevoir..

i have an 85' ranger with a 5 speed. on the fluid resevoir there a little rubber gromet, almost looks like the place you pump air into a basketball. what is it? is it important? i tore mine out on accident and now i think i srewed it. can i close off the hole with jb weld or is it needed??

i dont know for sure, but u could probablly get that piece in a junkyard for 5 bucks
