My 89 B2 has a 7.5 open rear with 3.45 gears and rear abs. I was at the local U-pull it today and seen and aerostar with a l/s 7.5 3.73 gears abs rear. I know they are both 28 spline. Would I be able to swap the carriers? I do know I would have to use my ring gear over, unless I wanted to change the front ratio, which I don't. I am really unsure how the abs ring is on. Is it on the ring gear or on the carrier? :dntknw:

You can put the carrier in your 7.5 yes, but you also will have to re-setup the gear's mesh pattern (backlash) as no 2 housings/carriers are exactly 100% identical (you can't just swap things around with another axle and go). If you don't know much about gear setup I would suggest just finding the axle you want that already has the correct ratio.

Yeah..I have set them up before. Mostly older rears, and never with that abs ring on it. I know I gotta save the shims on both sides of the carrier and pray they work lol. I always use spray paint to make sure ring and pinion are hitting ok. I'm not touching the pinion. I wish I could find one with the right ratio, but most I find are either open rear 345's or l/s 373's. I just didn't know about the abs ring. Do you know if the abs ring is on the carrier or the ring gear?

the abs ring is under the ring gear if i reacall.

ABS ring presses onto the carrier behind the ring gear (carrier has to be made for it).

I have 3.73 rear end, and front pig from my truck with abs. U dont live to far from here, i would sell them if u want them. pm me if interisted

Thanks 4x4 junkie. You just verified it for me. I thought at first maybe it bolted between the ring gear and the carrier or was part of the ring gear or carrier. A buddy of mine I just talked to said they were pressed on also. The aerostar has rear abs so I will go to the local u-pull it and try to get another one. I attempted to pull 3 but the little bolt kept breaking that holds the pin in lol. A guy at work told me they are left hand thread, but he isn't too reliable on info. Everyone else told me there is loctite on that little bolt, so i'm gonna sneak a little torch on and heat the next one I try lol.
