I did the swap awhile back. I put in an 03 aluminum shaft into my 97 and had to do a good bit more clearancing than the tech. library said. no problems till today i had it pretty crossed up on a hunting trip and it still touches. I don't know why it still touches. I even fabed a new rear bracket for the skid plate. My question is that are the steel shafts smaller diameter than the aluminum ones. I gotta do something?

Yes, the steel 1 piece shaft is smaller in diameter than the aluminum ones

Yup, a fair bit smaller. My 98 steel shaft still just rubbed the skidplate and bracket when the truck was really twisted up.

Then I bent it all to hell in a rock garden and got a new shaft built using the yokes from my old 2 piece shaft so the tubing diameter was smaller. Also got it made with the thickest wall tubing the drive shaft shop had.
