quality of used tires down?

My only thought is... Just drive over the tires. That's what we've done when it is necessary. No issues with tires spinning and trailer moving.

Unfortunately, it’s not something I was speculating about. A couple times we backed cars up, and the torque from the wheels would spin the trailer wheels, and we almost got in trouble. Putting a little flat piece on top of them that won’t slide out solved the problem.

This.

16" wheels are a rarity now.
I'm not sure ANY new vehicles come with them.
If people aren't buying NEW 16" tires, there are less USED 16" tires available...
I don't know about the latest Ranger but you could still get 16" on the 2019-2023 models and they are steel.

I did a quick look because I know the Bronco base still had 16's, unless there is an error (could go either way) the Ranger XL starts out with 17's.

If that is the case it kinda makes no sense to offer the Bronco Base with 16's...

I had originally considered 16" rims for the winter tires and later, mud tires but what little could be found at the time was stupid expensive. So, I just bought four 17" steel wheels to match the one I already had for my original spare.

The advantage of the smaller rim is more sidewall, even if it is only 1/2 an inch. But I'm sure you already know that. Most people like their big wheels with small sidewalls anymore. In some applications, it makes sense.

I wasn't either, just responding to the question asked based on our experience. Trailer connected to truck, truck parked, parking brake set, drive over trailer tires. Not something that we did often, but no issues when we did. YMMV

I like my 15's lol

It just doesn't make much sense to offer a silver painted steel minivan looking wheel only for a rather expensive SUV when nobody with a rather expensive SUV will want a silver painted minivan looking wheel...

I've seen guys make their fenders removable for loading tractors and such, as I've never seen any issues.

I did see a guy almost go trailer surfing once because the truck was just sitting in park and he picked the rear wheels of the truck off the ground because he didn't have anything under the back of the trailer when he drove on.

I would prefer 15". I would try it but the lug pattern is different. So, even if they did clear the brakes, I couldn't fasten them.

as far as the look, a couple rattle cans can make a big difference.

Ditto, and wheel chocks too! We still almost got in trouble. You don’t think the beer had anything to do with it do you?

No, we weren’t driving, we were just loading. Or loaded. Well, something like that.

The issue you two are talking about is why I have support jacks and support legs on the ramp of my 4x8.

Granted, you are talking bigger trailers with larger loads but I feel a whole lot better when the deck stays where it's supposed to be. Especially when the trailer isn't hooked up to a tow vehicle. I almost went for a ride a time or two without them.

That was the intent for my flat bed, 7-8 years later the fenders are still sitting in the shed uninstalled.

Hasn't happened when I was there, I could see that happening. The trailer we usually load stuff that heavy on has removable supports on the back for that very purpose. I imagine dad might get have had an experience that lead to that decision.

Nah, couldn't have. No way a hold my beer moment could lead to something like that.

my 2024 ranger is an xl and its got 17s. not steelies though, aluminum
