I've done the mod @ http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Apr04/offroad.htm -My 4x4 works great now! But, :dntknw:can you still use the dash electronic switch to 4High "on-the-fly"? I know NOT for 4Lo but what about 4Hi? Are there synchro's or something that allow the locked hubs and spinning front axles to engage with the T-case on the fly? I also have the AVMs on order and will install them as soon as I have more time but the same question applies. If I lock them, can I go into 4Hi "on-the-fly"?:dntknw: Currently I stop every time I want to switch up or down between 2 & 4 'cuz I'm not sure and don't want to rip out my under-carriage. * 1999 Ranger XLT Super, 4.0L, 4-spd Auto, 79,000 miles *

As far as I know you can switch from 2hi to 4 hi on the go as long as it is below 55mph, I know that I can in my '03. And mine has "live axles" which I guess means the fronts are always locked and only "connect" to the Tcase when switched into 4hi. as far as 4lo you still need to come to a complete stop, be in neutral and if a manual trans hold the clutch in.

Iv'e done the same modd, you can shift on the fly to 4hi.
