Guys, I just changed the ball joints on the "new to me" 2000, B4000 4X4. All went well until I engaged the 4X4 low range for the first time. There is a significant "clunk" when both engaging and disengaging.
What did I do wrong?
Any comments before I start to take it all a part... again.
Thx
Jim

The clunk you hear is normal and is coming from the transfer case, not the hubs.

If it were from the hubs, you would hear it clunk when switching to 4Hi too.

yeah, its just hitting that LOW gear.. mine does it to.

Clunk

I don't remember this loud noise before I pulled the hubs off to replace the ball joints. I seem to remember a simple engagement. This sounds like much more. Could I have mis aligned the axle when I pulled the hub and lifted the axle up, away from the ball joint?
