2000 ranger with fairly new rebuilt engine (about 10k) and really new rebuilt auto trans. Question is this: starts no problem and idles and revs just fine in park and neutral but when its in any drive gear with a load theres no power, no accerlation and no movement. It barely rolls. Theres is also no abnormal sounds. Thought it was clogged cats but took them off and the same occurs. Thought it was the mass airflow sensor but cleaned it with the mass airflow sensor spray cleaner, no help. Anyone have any ideas? I have yet to read code(s) cuz the light is on but it was on before all this and it ran fine.

if the engine still revs up and sounds fine i would definately look at the clutch or transmission....maybe the clutch is slipping really badly?

You ned to read the codes and then post them here. You have added more problems/codes but the light was alread on so you did not know the new codes were there. Did you do the obvious stuff like check tranny fluid? how. The engine is new how about the fuel filter. air filter?.......GO GET THE CODES AND POST THEM.....

if the tranny was bad the truck would still have power and rev up but not move. is this what the trucks doing?? or is it when ur in gear it just boggs down like it has gas flow restriction?? and i agree w modella need to get codes read.

Its an auto, so that cant be the case.

that is a VERY good point....haha thats why i tend to not give advice that much and leave it to the people on this site who know wayyyy more then i do.

Is the engine still revving up but nothing happening when you put it in gear?

If it is - have you made sure there's transmission fluid in the transmission? Remember to put it back in "P" before adding fluid if its low or you could have a really bad day.

Cleaning the MAF and trying to runit wont tell you much other than your MAF is now clean. You have to unplug it and try to run it that way. If it has any change then the emmission system is the problem.

are you sure its going into gear? you should easily be able to tell if its going into gear. if not than check your fluid, or maybe it was a poor rebuild job.
