Push starting auto tranny?

My g/fs future step dad has a Fairline, I think he said it had a 221 / Fordomatic with a rear pump, and it can be push started down a hill.

:icon_confused: Once you're moving power steering doesn't matter... My first Ranger didn't come with power steering and the only problem was trying to turn the wheels without moving... Once you were moving, even a little bit, you could turn just fine...

Thats a manual gearbox versus a power-assisted gearbox. I've driven manual steering before and theres a huge difference. When you lose the power portion of power steering, its a real bitch to get those tires to turn, no matter the speed. The manual boxes are setup differently and have numerically higher gear ratios to make it easier to turn the wheel.

Trust me, The tranny was turning the engine. Big difference was engine braking. When I popped it in neutral, not only did I loose the power assist, I had to use a lot more brake to control my speed on the descent.

I bet, never tried stopping the Ranger without the power brakes.... dont wanna find out what its like either, lol.

I came down this with no engine, power steering or power brakes!

Let me tell you, with no power steering, there is no buffer between you and what is going on outside. If you catch a front tire, it will rip the wheel out of your hand. It could easily dislocate your thumbs and even break your wrist. No kidding. It is rough! Going down that dead stick sucked!!!

Ooooool Jeffy... gunning for another KB-29 crash site cept with ranger parts..:icon_rofl:
