First gen factory trim

Very reasonable and look forward to seeing what happens.

I considered the wrap route, too, or even chrome spray paint. The issue I ran into at the time was that I couldn’t find the chrome wrap, protective wrap, and 3M tape at a cheap enough price to justify it. Combined with the fact that, for some reason, a previous owner replaced the driver’s side trim with a parts store offering, I decided to just keep digging for something close and have it all match.

That being said, I’m a big fan of the idea of restoring the original and can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work. Maybe someone else will chime in if there is.
I got a sample in the mail today. It’s a little wide but it looks decent.

I’m playing around with some tape. I got some Mylar chrome tape and tried it. It was only 3/4” and it looks decent. It didn’t quite cover as much as original. It’s a little wavy I think because of the adhesive seemed to not be evenly applied. Could be 40 year old material underneath too. Next I’m waiting on some 1” HVAC aluminum tape to see how that looks.

Maybe try a heat gun and one of the body filler applicators.

Yeah I thought about that. That piece was done around midnight last night and I was tired and wanted to go to bed. So I could probably take some time to make it look better. The tape was just a little narrow anyway.
