I have 92 ford ranger just picked up its a 2.3 5 speed runs good just been used hard on exterior. My key lock cylinder did not work so I removed it and when I did I found out the pieces around were busted I can start with flat head but a new lock cylinder won't hold on place I tried it today. I was wonder since I can put my switch to were the steering wheel won't lock can I leave it there then run a toggle switch for accessories and one for the ignition and then push button for the starter then when I turn it off with those will it kill power so my battery won't die since I'm leaving were the lock cylinder codes in the position were it won't lock any help be great only other way be get a new steering column and really don't want to dump much money into since its a beater I got for hauling wood I attached a photo of what lock looks like

I think you're on the right track. it's not hard to do that.

just replace column from jy and rekey ign to door lock. cost a little more but less potential problems.

Yes, picking up a key switch at the wrecker would probably be best but..........

You could leave the key switch in the run position and then use a relay and toggle switch to turn battery power on and off at the ignition switch.
And then a push button switch and relay to activate starter if toggle switch was on.

This would all be done under the steering column at the ignition switch, there are two Battery lines coming into this switch, both should be Light Green, these are the wires you would cut and insert a relay in

Starter wire coming out of ignition switch is Red/light Blue, you would install relay here but provide 12v from the output of one of the other relays, so it could only work when toggle was on.

I would use Grounds to activate relays, less of a chance to get a short.

You can of course not use relays, totally up to you, just splice and extend the wires, but be sure to use correct wire gauge and toggle/push button rated for at least 15 amps, or ........you will have issues

I actually just did this where I leave my key in the ignition and turned the 4x4 button on my t case panel to ignition and the low range is my start button. I did mine purely out of boredom but it is doable
