Man am I glad to find a site with so much information! I have a 2000 Ranger with a 4.0L motor I replaced the heads at 190,000 miles after the #1 cylinder burnt up. The seat in the head apparently is made of softer metal then the valves so the valve springs "tuliped" the valve inside the head.
No big deal right? blank heads are fairly inexpensive so at 190,000 I figured it was to be expected. well now 18 months later at 238,000 the #6 cylinder does the exact same thing so I am done with this motor.

My question is does anyone know if the SOHC 4.0L in the 2001 Rangers is a direct replacement for a 2000 push rod motor? I had the 4r55e transmission rebuilt at the same time as the new heads so if it is at all possible I'd like to keep the tranny and just throw in the better 4.0

you'll need the new computer and probably the wiring, but yeah the engine will hook to that tranny
