Push rod length? Still can find a straight answer.

Ok so i am trying to finish up on a rebuild of a 4.0 liter for my 93. Had the heads p&p . have the 422 cam lined up not bought. still trying to find a straight answer on push rod length. Emailed smith bros they only could tell me a price and no length for new push rods. So any one out there in the ranger world who have done this type of build tell my the lenght needed so i can finish this thing and get it put in the truck.

I think I'd call the 422 manufactorer and ask them.. I betcha they tell you that you don't need a special length.

ya talk with them guy just kept saying the catlog doesnt list them. so that was real no help to me. just trying to get some answers from guys that have been around the block with this. i know alot stuff but far from all of it. or at these point think i do.

Well I have installed lots and lots of camshafts.. The only ones that ever required different top end parts were cams that were installed in highly modified engines. Just a simple cam swap should NEVER need different pushrods. If that cam DOES need different pushrods it WILL be written on the box and on the cam company site...

Hi, I placed a 410 into my build and if memory is correct the length was 5.55 (or 5.5). If you haven't installed the shaft yet, place it beside the old one and see the differences. What I noticed was that the old one was taller than the 410 so it made sence that the new rods had to be ordered to make up for the differences in shafts. Did you also replace the lifters? If not you might want to. hope this helps.

well i did not get the shaft yet was waiting trying to get more info on these subject most of the forums i have tried to read all end up with no answers and just poeple talking crap about each other. yes i have new lifters par of the reason i am re doing these engine the one in the truck is higher mileage and ticks like crazy burns oil and leaks oil too. thanks that is info of help .

The reason I was asking about the lifters is because it is highly suggested that when you place in a new cam you should replace the lifters. The ticking more than likely won't go away with new lifters for it is the rockers that are probaly making all the noise. Even after all the work I did with my motor I still have rocker tick. I will be replacing these eventualy when funds permit.

ya i have replaced the seats in the rockers were the rods push on them and lifters still need rods though.

ok so i called the smith brothers today and they told me they knew what i was asking about when i asked them about rod lenght with the comp cam but i was told they sell two different lenghts so what will i need they did not tell me the lenght of the rods. any one that can help?
